The title of my thesis is "A Study of Marguerite?s Efforts to Overcoming
Racism in Maya Angelou?s Autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." I
want to analyze the racial problem in the black life in the America South, focusing
on the experience of Maya Angelou?s experience about racial problem in her
autobiographical I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. In this thesis, I analyze the
main character?s effort in overcoming racism problem. I use literary approach
with the literary devices of characterization and conflict, and some supporting
theories on the black American concepts of beauty and racism. In the end of my
analysis, I find that the main character success in overcoming her racism problem

become a better person though racism problem still exist until she grows up.
