Length of material selection and scheduling of polarizer multilayer films by modified dandelion algorithm embedded with variable neighborhood search

In modern manufacturing, optimizing material selection and production scheduling is vital for efficiency and cost-effectiveness, particularly for complex multilayer film production. This study introduces a hybrid optimization approach combining the Modified Dandelion Algorithm (DA) and Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) to tackle material selection and scheduling. Three different strategies modify DA to enhance global exploration, while VNS enhances local search capabilities. Experimental analysis explores these three strategies, and results show that Strategy 1 significantly outperforms PSO + VNS and DSSA + VNS, achieving better outcomes in minimizing machine cuts and reducing waste. This study provides a novel approach to optimize multilayer film production.
