This creative thesis explores how a downfall of a regime is not only triggered by external war alone but by the leader’s narcissistic decision-making where they have traits associated with Grandiose NPD. This creative work uses two key theoretical perspectives on narcissism which are Jessica Yakeley’s (2018) general understanding of NPD and Misiak et al.’s (2023) correlation of NPD with a psychotic-like experience that may lead to harmful consequences. The narrative focuses on Olson Erwig, the protagonist of the story where he is the leader of the country that is involuntarily involved in a world war, who must have one-on-one meetings with his three core ministers regarding defense, finance and media. Despite hearing his ministers’ proposals, Olson consistently dismisses their proposals and replaces them with his illogical and irrational decisions, demonstrating his self-centeredness. This creative thesis illustrates how unchecked narcissism can undermine leadership and lead to a downfall.
