This study analyzes power and resistance through visual symbolism in The Owl House through the Emperor and the wild witches. Which is reflected by how the Emperor controls and restricts the use of wild magic and how the wild witches resist these limitations by challenging the power. This study combines the semiotic theory of Roland Barthes and Michel Foucault’s theory of power and resistance. By applying these theories to the analysis, this study analyzes the visual elements in the animation and identifies them as signs that signify layered meanings. These layered meanings signify the dynamics of power and resistance that are reflected in the animation. These findings reveal that animation can convey layered meanings through symbolic visual design. Ultimately, this study concludes that The Owl House portrays power and resistance not only through its storyline, but also through the visual symbolism reflected in the animation.
