We did not realize it at the time, but it appears that adversity is a way the Divine One grants wisdom. The words 'balance' and 'orientation to the axis' began to vibrate, to provide strength at a time of weakness. The word ksatria summoned extraordinary inspiration. Finally, we realized that life as a venue for learning has its own path and methods. Into the Eye of Life presents the essence of our conversations with the people of Tenganan Pagringsingan. It conveys the final messages of the late Bapak Mangku Widia, a respected village spiritual leader, to the young people of Tenganan Pagringsingan. Our inner struggle and personal reflections throughout the making of this book color the contents of this memoir. We present Into the Eye of Life as a form of heartfelt respect for the ancestors of Tenganan Pagringsingan. We sincerely hope that this memoir of the eye and of life will serve as a ray of light for whoever is receptive to it.
